It’s 4 o’clock in the morning and I’m watching Blue Bloods. The drama got me thinking of how much I I love and appreciate men and women in uniform.

I love a man in uniform. I also love a woman in uniform. I particularly have a fascination for military men and women. Military families face an array of challenges that most families don’t. The mere possibility of deployment can be an issue – practically leaving spouses/partners on their own to care for the family. When a military man or woman is deployed challenges and fear of possible service-related disabilities arise, and that’s not even the worst case scenario.

I’m not part of a military family but I feel for all the families who sacrifice a great deal to make this world a better place.

Below is a scene from the now defunct TV series, Brothers & Sisters. It revolves around Justin, the youngest member of the Walker family who’s dealing with addiction to pain meds after suffering from a service-related disability. This is one of the best fictional military family scenes in my book–  ‘gets me every time.

My favorite military-related site is Welcome Home Blog – a website of surprise video homecomings. Just like what the site states, “Regardless of political stance, no one can deny the joy felt upon seeing our troops coming home safely.”

“Patriotism is not short, frenzied, outbursts of emotion, but the dedication of a lifetime.”

Stop With THE Attitude, Please.

I have little (to non-existent) tolerance for the continuous “oh, poor me” attitude of people who constantly complain about life. Of course, we all have ‘those days’, even weeks of personal episodes, and we’re allowed to wallow in self-pity every now and then. But if this attitude becomes a way of life, for the love of God, STOP. Regardless of the unseemly insurmountable obstacles in your life, you are NOT unfairly picked on by THE universe. There’s no ME and ME against the WORLD because most of the circumstances in your life are products of your own choices. You CHOOSE your partner, your friends, your job, your hobbies, your good and bad decisions. And for those instances when life gives you absolutely no choice, you can STILL choose the kind of attitude that will help you kick life’s ass.

And by the way, if everyone around you treats you with indifference, maybe it’s high time to look closely in the mirror.
